Life Goes On

Wind winds about its way
Who told it to do so?
Did it ask the leaves if they needed a good shaking?
The birds if they needed a boost in flight?
The waves if they needed help crashing?
No, it just blows.

Leaves hover over the ground.
Who told them to do so?
Did they ask the grass if it needed shade?
The beetles if they crave nourishment?
The limbs if they needed decoration?
No, they just hang.

The birds fly.
The waves crash.
The grass grows.
The beetles scavenge.
The limbs inch toward the sky.
Nobody has to tell them.
They didn't ask to do these things.
They just do them.
And life goes on.

Winds pass by.
Leaves fall.
Birds pass on.
Beetles die.
Waves calm.
Limbs become dormant.
Nobody has to tell them.
They don't ask to do these things.
They just do them.
And life goes on.
